This is an Image of a lino-cut print. I have a few of these left.
The edition was 10. It was one of two print designs sent to the "Second International Biennale of Ex-Libris" in Montenegro last year. It is your chance to own a print that has been exhibited in a major International show. At the same time it is based on the story of Chuchullain's Salmon of Knowledge, from Irish Mythology.
Upon the standing stone, (an ogham stone) is written 'Libris' or book, in ogham, one of the earliest forms of writing.
I used the allegory of Knowledge as part of the book idea also.
The theme of the Biennale was 'lighthouse'. For this I depicted the passage grave at Newgrange in the Boyne Valley, a pre christian, Druidic Tomb. This tomb allows the rising sun on the winter solstice, December 21st, to penetrate along a winding passage and to light the back of the chamber through a small window above the entrance. A lighthouse in reverse as it were. The image itself is 15 by 10 cm. (it was designed to go inside on the fly-leaf of a book) and is Black on white paper.
